A machine that wipes out one's immune system? That's a change of pace! The Forerunner artifact in this book was rather interesting too, and I hope we get more information on it in the next book, or in some other media. Each one has their own reaction, making for interesting interactions. On the brighter side, I still enjoy the teens and how they reacted to their new situation. If we're talking ORION-level augmentations (kind of like the Spartan Field Manual implied), I'm on board. If we're talking full-blown Spartan-IVs in 2549/2550, I can't say I'm going to be happy. A lot of whether this is a good or bad move will depend on how things are handled in the sequel. This does feel a little forced, but more over, just doesn't feel very "Halo", at least at the moment. I feel the reaction to the ending of Battle Born was overblow, to say the least, but this one, well I can't say I'd blame people if they're upset. Granted, unlike in Halo 2, this Scarab was stationary, so using high-powered explosives seems a little more viable, but both the Scarab and energy shield? Maybe if the text has said or implied that it wasn't the explosives directly that damaged the scarab, but the crater that would be left caused the scarab to topple over? I don't know, just seems off. The Scarab and an energy shield being destroyed seems a little too easy. Was it just me, or did Owen seem inconsistent at times in his concern over the teens' safety? Like when he brought them into Brume-sur-Mer to blow up the shield/Scarab, when just pages earlier he was talking about how concerned he was with keeping them out of harms way. Okay, so overall a good read, but a few things that did bother me: Feel free to discuss the book openly here, but elsewhere on the sub, use spoiler tags. Out normal spoiler rules will be in effect. Their journey will take them far behind enemy lines, into the heart of the war zones on Meridian.ĭon't miss this official, original young adult novel, the sequel to Halo: Battle Born!"
